Erdogan bargains Theological School of Halki with Fethiye Mosque

Alexis Tsipras, Tayyip Erdogan

Tayyip Erdogan made revelations about his meeting with the Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras.

According to skai.gr, the Turkish President, in his speech at an event of the ruling party AKP in Adrianople, repeated the “political line” of Ankara, i.e. that the Greek request for the reopening of the Theological School of Halki presupposes the respect to the religious freedoms of the Muslims living in Greece.

“I said to Mr. Tsipras: ‘You want us to reopen the Theological School of Halki. Let us open the Fethiye Mosque in Athens’”.

The Turkish President claimed that Alexis Tsipras commented that a mosque is already under construction in Athens. “I asked Mr. Tsipras: ‘Why doesn’t the mosque have a minaret? You cannot even tolerate with the term ‘Turk’ for the minority in Thrace”, said Tayyip Erdogan.

“He replied that the political opposition reacts, and I told him that as the church has a bell tower so the mosque must have a minaret”, concluded the Turkish President.
