Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to visit Mount Athos in October

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will visit Mount Athos on October 19-22, 2019.

The Ecumenical Patriarch will visit Mount Athos on the 200th anniversary of the construction of the katholikon of Xenophontos Monastery.

The official welcome of the Ecumenical Patriarch by the Protos and the Abbots and the Representatives of the 20 Athonite Holy Monasteries will take place at the Arsanas (a small port that only monks have access) of the Xenophontos Monastery. The Ecumenical Patriarch will preside over the Divine Liturgy the following day.

Metropolitan Pavlos of Drama, Metropolitan Stefanos of Kallioupolis and Madytos, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Adrianopolis and Deacon Grigorios will also be present.

The Ecumenical Patriarch will travel to Karyes, where he will pay respects to the icon of Panagia “Axion Esti” in Protato. Then he will visit Vatopedi Monastery, Pantokratoros Monastery, Athonite Academy, and the Sketes of Saint Andreas (also known as Seraglio), of Saint Panteleimon (Koutloumousiou Monastery) and of Prophet Elijah.
